Artists

Regina Richter

Regina Richter was born 27th July 1947 in Hamburg. She studied from 1968 until 1972 at the Polytechnic for Design in Hamburg, which she finished in 1972, gaining a Diploma. Since this time she has been working as an illustrator and painter. In 1996 she established the Summer Academy in Montalto/Liguria, which she leads still today. From this year the following courses are bookable: watercolour painting, Painting of forms and gilding, free painting and acrylic work and woodwork.

Flavio Furlani

Flavio Furlani was born 1933 in Turin. He started his career as a photographer. His main work has been photographing the Ponente for the tourist journals. 15 years ago he began working with plastics. One of his most famous sculptures is the "Bentornata Llaria" that you can visit in the Castello of Zuccarello. Today he lives in Albenga. His art studio, "Studio e la bottega d'arte" is in the Via Mazzini 16, 17031 Albenga (SV), Tel. 00393474664592).

Adrian Wettach

Adrian Wettach was an exceptionally gifted and popular entertainer, a clown and an artist. Many of the European kings and heads of governments adored him. In 1951 he first established his travelling circus. In 1927 Wettach bought some land with a sea view in Imperia and built his large Villa Bianca. He created the villa in different styles, such as Baroque, Rococo and Art Nouveau. He passed the last years of his life here until his death in 1959. His daughter sold the Villa in 1975. Today it is property of the Province Imperia and is called Villa Grock.

Founder of the Nobel Prize

Alfred Nobel

Alfred Nobel was born 21st October 1833 in Stockholm. At the age of 17 years, he spoke 5 languages (German, English, French, Russian and Swedish) fluently. His family's wealth meant that he could enjoy a very good education and he studied chemistry and physics. His secondary passion was for English Literature. He later travelled copiously to the USA, Sweden, Germany and France, and on one of these journeys he met Sorbrero - the inventor of nitroglycerine. Nobel was very interested in inventions and experimented a great deal with nitroglycerine. In 1863 he invented a method of priming that could be used to ignite explosions. In 1891 Nobel moved to San Remo, preferring the healthy climate of the Mediterrean and lived here until he died 10th December 1896. Today you can still visit the Villa Nobel, which is surrounded by a wonderful park. There are still some laboratories in the Villa where he had experimented, as well as list of all the Nobel Prize Winners.
